The Art Canvas

Developed by art critic Harry Roche, the Art Canvas focuses on 19th and 20th century art. The site is a work in progress and contains few images, although the images that are included are large and very good quality.

"ArtMagick is a virtual gallery dedicated to the continual quest of seeking out obscure 19th century artists and long-forgotten paintings showing a "magic world of romance and pictured poetry". The majority of the content in the archive covers the Pre-Raphaelite and Symbolist movements." The gallery is currently in the process of being updated, and so few of the artists are available for full viewing. When the gallery is finished, it will contain over 500 artists and over 3,000 pictures. The images available are small, but decent quality. The site also includes poetry and a variety of other features.

Flickr Groups

With thousands of Flickr groups already in existence, and many more on the way, it is hard not to find a specific group to match your image needs. These collections are maintained by Flickr users with a common interest, and so the quality of the images will vary between groups and users. Many artists choose to protect their images under a Creative Commons License, which allows the user access to images as long as the artist is credited.
